If you’re not new to Radiance, you already know how we feel about natural deodorant. After trying ‘Wild’ for a week, our thoughts were a bit…all over the place. From the candy floss scent not lasting a week in hospitality, we thought the only viable option was to start again, in a new time and new place. This time, with a new contender, ‘Fussy’.
No, this time the deodorant won’t be put through the mortal peril of working a week in hospitality, if you know, you know (and if you don’t, I’m jealous).
This time around we have Fussy, which is like the best friend of Wild. Nearly the same vibe but in different packaging. To be perfectly candid, I did squish the Fussy refill in my other case, who’s spending money on a whole new case? Not me.
From their beginning in October 2020, Fussy was featured on BBC’s Dragons Den when founder Matt Kennedy jumped out of a bin on television.
Like Wild, they address the plastic waste issue we are facing nowadays and aim to have less ingredients in deodorant
The star of the show this time around was the Fussy men’s refill (it was all they had in Boots, and it smells great) in the scent ‘Wilderness’, with notes of bergamot, cedarwood and vetiver. A nice neutral scent compared to the candy floss from before, some would say a major improvement.
Let’s see how it performed in a week of journalistic endeavours.

Day 1 – A new beginning?
Ok, this time around we changed things up, and bright beginnings for the stinkometer were on the horizon. I absolutely lathered the new scent on the night before day 1, and this time – you could smell the bergamot through my pyjamas! Very impressed to say the least. Let’s hope this carries on the rest of the week…
Day 2 – Sold a dream
Day two had high hopes. Ok, and we do need to make a disclaimer. No, the deodorant wasn’t put through the rigorous testing of a week in hospitality. However, dare I say, a week of magazine producing has similar levels of stress. So the valuables are basically the same. There is hope in the natural deodorant world – it reached 2pm, and I still wasn’t smelling. All that could be smelled was the scent of deodorant, and dare I say, it wasn’t unpleasant! With regular top ups throughout the day, did I smell? Yes, but was it less than before? Also yes. Day two, you surprised me.
Day 3 – Enjoyable?
Day three, you were good, I’m waiting for you to be great. We started out well though, and I honestly do think the reason I enjoyed this so much more was because of the scent change from candyfloss to bergamot. #obsessed. The downfall, however, came from later in the day around 4pm, which is always a stinker. Stinkometer and stress both off the charts, this deodorant needed multiple top ups a day. By the time I got home at 6pm, the stench was more than usual.
Day 4 – Am I going nose blind?
The final day was in, and my my my, was this deodorant put through the ringer. Stress, mishaps, mistakes? Fussy went through it all. But it survived! Yes, by the end of the day I was stinking, but less so than usual. The stress of the day increased my sweat output by tenfold, but it was contained. The stinkometer has survived to the second week of trial, back by popular demand, and it performed well.
I don’t know whether it’s blind optimism, but Fussy, you might have changed something for me. On a purely unbiased genuine note, I do think men’s deodorant lasts longer, there may be no scientific evidence for this, but it always seems to last that little bit more.
I’m going to try out Wild and Fussy for a longer time in the summer to see if they can survive the deodorant hunger games – a sweltering British summer. But for now, I think we’re all pleasantly surprised by stinkometer part two. Take this from me, it takes time to get used to, but it helps me feel a bit better about my impact on the planet. So if that’s what you want from your deodorant, go for it!
